SUMMER 2007
It's pretty clear that I know how to approach things better than I would have without it (Legal Writing Prep), and I already was pretty confident before that, so it helps no matter how sure or unsure you are about how well you'll do.
munsonp@gmail.com, Vermont Law School, Class of 2010
I would definitely recommend it to an entering law student. It helps you start to focus and understand what exactly law school is going to expect from you.
janzardo@gmail.com, New York Law School, Class of 2010
Legal Writing Prep has definitely helped me so far in my classes. . . . It has eased my anxiety because I feel more prepared to answer questions both in class and on exams because I know what I am looking for when reading.
saltizer473@netzero.net, West Virginia University College of Law, Class of 2010
It absolutely helped. I had a much better handle on developing my IRACs while my friends were struggling. This took off a lot of pressure when the assignments started piling on.
jscollo@ramapo.edu, Regent University School of Law, Class of 2010
I would definitely recommend taking the Legal Writing Prep class before entering law school. It has really helped me gain a head start over some of my other classmates. I knew what to expect when I was given assignments, and I have used my notes from the Legal Writing Prep class repeatedly to help me with my current classes.
crosland@vt.edu, Franklin Pierce Law Center, Class of 2010
I was much more comfortable than many of my classmates. We began school with the "here it is" attitude that we were supposed to know how to brief cases and know what we are doing. I would have been lost without your course. Thank you!
wtampling@hotmail.com, Birmingham School of Law
I have already recommended it to a couple students who are starting as JD's next year. ipthomas@mac.com, Vermont Law School, Class of 2010
I feel that it helped to get me prepared for what I was going to be doing in law school. The whole program, from start to finish helped me to begin developing the skills needed in law school. Thank You!
esf0307@yahoo.com, Vermont Law School, Class of 2010
It most definitely helped minimize my anxiety in law school because I immediately felt confident about my abilities to begin reading and briefing cases. Also, when my classmates were using the IRAC format for the first time, it was not new for me.
cabrerasl@yahoo.com, Vermont Law School, Class of 2010
I would absolutely recommend this course. For the incoming 1L students this course is a must. It will give you a foundation to build upon and help you in the first year to have an understanding of what is going on. We have enough to worry about without having to hear about the IRAC method for the first time. It also helped with my first homework, in that I had to brief several cases before attending my first class. Excellent class!
tony@timcaselaw.com, Birmingham School of Law
Yes, because you get a better picture of how law school is going to be, and the tools in this class really take a lot of pressure of your shoulders when law school starts. I would recommend it to everyone.
Malon014@bama.ua.edu, Birmingham School of Law
I did my first writing assignment last week, and I had a IRAC under my belt, it was so much easier to be on mark.
sc.adams1@gmail.com, Vermont Law School, Class of 2010
Yes, [I would recommend Legal Writing Prep] without hesitation. It was a wonderful way to get a head start without hardship to family, job, or bank.
forlise@gmail.com, Vermont Law School, Class of 2010
I think legal writing prep has helped a great deal. It was very beneficial in constructing my first memo for law school. Yes, it lessoned my anxiety because it put some structure to the mystery.
albrowning@gmail.com, Franklin Pierce Law Center, Class of 2010
I feel that the class absolutely helped in that it gave me a head start on the way I should look at and interpret material in cases.
rpn83@yahoo.com, Birmingham School of Law
It was really easy for me to grasp what the instructors were saying having already had the basics hashed out for me in the prep course. I think it is well worth it for entering law students to take this course.
eiderchick@gmail.com, Vermont Law School, Class of 2010
I would definitely recommend this class for those entering Law School. The skills taught in this class have eased my fears and have given me further confidence to tackle assignments in a thorough manner.
evolvingpeace@gmail.com, Vermont Law School, MSEL Student
SUMMER 2006
I can honestly say the knowledge and experience I gained in the class has helped tremendously in note-taking, comprehension and my legal writing class.
I would recommend the class to anyone entering law school. . . . $300 is nothing compared to what you get out of the class. Thanks again for all of your help.
rweisinger@vermontlaw.edu, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
Legal Writing Prep has been a tremendous resource in just my first month at law school. I now know the format and substance professors demand for their exam questions and writing assignments.
skim@vermontlaw.edu, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
Legal Writing Prep was a great start to legal writing...so far we covered more in the 1 week of LWP than we've covered in our legal writing course.
ccallaghan@vermontlaw.edu, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
I would highly recommend Legal Writing Prep. . . . providing the best bang for your buck that I've ever experienced in a prep course.
guy.alsentzer@pepperdine.edu, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
I work at a law firm as a paralegal. There are several paralegals that want to attend law school. I have told all of them about the class and encouraged them to take it. I did this after day 2 of the class!! My boss, a senior partner, looked at the course material and said that this is everything that I need for law school.
tjperson@hotmail.com, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
Legal Writing Prep was very helpful in preparing for law school. I have come to realize that there is not too much instruction in many of the classes, and that one must teach him/herself the basic fundamentals through reading assignments and other materials. However, coming to law school with those basic fundamental skills is very helpful in efficiently and confidently completing expected tasks.
smartin@vermontlaw.com, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
I would recommend legal writing prep without reservations. It took me more time than I expected to wrap my head around the IRAC writing structure. The structure is so different from academic writing.
wenonahjoy@highstream.net, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
LWP was very helpful and a great confidence booster. Especially during the first two weeks when we had to start reading and briefing cases, it gave me the skills to read and brief quickly. It also helped immensely with understanding how the socratic method would play out in class.
bremington@vermontlaw.edu, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
I would absolutely recommend Legal Writing Prep to anyone entering law school. The course introduces a student to the most intimidating aspects of first year law school while the stakes are low and there's time to practice.
ekulschinsky@vermontlaw.edu, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
The summer is a great time to learn the necessary legal skills. Once law school starts, you are so busy and do not have time to learn these additional elements. I would definitley recommend the class to any future law student.
nkaras@vermontlaw.edu, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
Legal Writing Prep helped a lot with my anxiety, because it gave me an idea of what the end product should be. These first few weeks are very much about being thrown into the thick of concepts and it can be hard to wrap one's mind around. Knowing what I am expected to produce gives this process some contextual meaning.
ttoles@vermontlaw.edu, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
I think students should take Legal Writing Prep, whether or not you come away from the class with exactly how you're asked to write in law school, it gives you the head start on the format expected and its just one less confusing skill to tackle when you're being introduced to six new subjects at the same time.
jsnow@vermontlaw.edu,Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
I expected that I would not be able to do the writing in the time given. I have never written a coherent piece in less than a week. I also expected not to learn much during the class hour. I was blown away. The course well exceeded my expectations.
mtucker [at] vermontlaw [dot] edu, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
The critiques were the most useful part of the course. Getting direct feedback on your work is a great learning tool.
sja1077@hotmail.com, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
Every minute in class was worth my money and my time!!!
stelmar8@yahoo.com, Marshall School of Law-Texas Southern U, Class of 2009
I will definitely recommend this course. I have found it very helpful. As a professor, you have done a good job to ensure that we feel free to ask questions and have been very reliable. I think that is very important.
dave0066@umn.edu, St. Thomas School of Law, Class of 2009
I have to admit I was a bit skeptical of the course before it began. I had never taken a "chat room" style course before and was unsure of its efficacy as a teaching/learning tool. I have to say that since taking the course I am a big fan of the format. I learned a ton, and really appreciate the fact that the transcripts were emailed to me so that I have neat, organized notes to reference next year in law school.
sslenker@gmail.com, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
This was my first time in a chat room. This was also my first Internet class. I must say that the course and the notes were informative and precise. The course exceeded my expectations. I was not once bored with lecture. Instead, my learning experience was truly enhanced through group interactions, a warm climate, and an extremely knowledgeable professor.
shaylacrenshaw@hotmail.com, Vermont Law School, Class of 2009
SUMMER 2005
Your class was very helpful; I really appreciate it. My legal writing professor gave an in-class exercise on IRAC on day 1. He discussed IRAC for 5 minutes before giving the exercise, and then he collected the assignment after 20 minutes. I think the professor just wanted to check how much we knew starting his class, but many students were unnerved by this assignment and some even called it a "quiz." I didn't read the comments the professor made on other people's papers, but some had a lot of comments on them. I felt relaxed during the exercise and my paper came back with the words "good start." Thank you for the preparation.
sarji@earthlink.net, Brooklyn Law School, Class of 2008
I would recommend this course to someone interested in law school. . . . this class convinced me that "it's the writing, stupid!" It doesn't matter how well I know the black letter law, if I can't write logical, concise, and complete analyses of legal questions, then I won't succeed.
cscherr@woh.rr.com, The Ohio State University College of Law, Class of 2008
The critiques were amazing. I was amazed at the amount of detail you put into analyzing them. Rarely have I seen writing broken down word for word like this.
faure_fan@yahoo.com, Temple University Beasley School of Law, Class of 2008
I would definitely recommend this course to people interested in attending law school. I feel like I've learned so much and that my writing has already improved and the course only lasted a week. Granted, I still need to do more practice. But I was quite excited to see the improvement from the assignment I turned in on Tuesday to the assignment I turned in 2 hours after class on Thursday. It was really nice that you recognized that I had improved and made me the model answer for the Ray case. Thanks for being such a wonderful professor; you have definitely taught me a lot.
justjen88@gmail.com, Santa Clara School of Law, Class 2008
I would definitely recommend this course to someone considering law school. What better way to learn about law than being able to sit at the computer in your pajamas?! Honestly though, this class offers thorough explanations as to what will be expected from a first year law student. The feedback helped to improve my writing tremendously!
Traed1014@aol.com, Creighton University School of Law, Class of 2008
Everything was presented clearly and anything that was doubtful was quickly cleared up with a better explanation.
bkuckelman@yahoo.com, University of Kansas School of Law, Class of 2008
I am so glad I had the chance to participate in your online course, I feel like the attention I received and the things that I learned have made me so much more comfortable with the idea of entering my legal writing course this fall! I even find that I am eager to put what I learned to use!
fragolinafashion@hotmail.com, University of Chicago School of Law, Class of 2008
Yes, [I would recommend this course to a friend considering law school] because it made me feel so much more prepared. I believe the most beneficial assignments were the actual writing assignments; it helped me so much to practice the steps in the textbook. I feel much more ready to dive in to courses because I know how to break down cases.
abramowitz@gmail.com , University of Illinois School of Law, Class of 2008
I would definitely recommend this course to someone going into law school.
dhtashjian@ucdavis.edu, Berkeley School of Law, Class of 2008
I definitely will recommend this to a friend considering law school because I really did learn a lot from the course and I'm sure they would like to learn the same.
scolao@wesleyan.edu, University of Connecticut School of Law, Class of 2008
Because my schedule was so full I was at first a bit reluctant to spend a lot of time on a class for which I was getting no academic credit. I realized, however, that the things I could learn in the class would be valuable to me both academically and professionally. The class was great.
